Deep Web - The unknown web
The Deep Web, is part of the World Wide Web whose contents are not indexed by standard search engines for any reason. The content is hidden behind HTML forms. It is estimated that the deep web makes up 96 % of the whole internet. The opposite term to the deep web is the surface web. The deep web includes many very common uses such as web mail and online banking but also paid for services with a paywall such as video on demand, and many more, one of the most famous way of money transactions done is the ever famous Bitcoin, currently known to all who got hit by the wannacry ransomware. Computer scientist Michael K. Bergman is credited with coining the term deep web in 2001 as a search indexing term.
Now the scary part is the statistics:
Exactly how large is the Deep Web? If the glacier analogy did not make a big enough impact on the imagination, the following statistics should help put the immensity of the Deep Web into perspective.
· The Deep Web contains 7500 Terabytes of information. The Surface Web, in comparison, contains 19 terabytes of content.
· The Deep Web has between 400 and 550 times more public information than the Surface Web.
· More than 200,000 Deep Web sites currently exist.
· Together, the 60 largest Deep Web sites contain around 750 terabytes of data, surpassing the size of the entire Surface Web 40 times.
· The total quality of the Deep Web is 1,000 to 2,000 times greater than the quality of the Surface Web.
· 550 billion individual documents can be found on the Deep Web compared to the Surface Web’s 1 billion individual documents.
· 95% of the Deep Web is publicly accessible, meaning no fees or subscriptions.
The contents of the Deep web data are almost impossible to measure so these numbers are just an approximation of the current situation. Since more information and sites are always being added, it can be assumed that the deep web is growing exponentially at a rate that cannot be quantified.
Now what can you find on the deep web:
· You can buy copied credit cards on a credit card fraud board.
Another thing you can purchase is fake identification. An American passports would set you back 700 Euros, or 973.91 USD and it comes with free delivery (yay?)
· Drugs
· Child porn and trafficking
· Jewelry (obviously stolen)
· Artifacts (also stolen)
· Red rooms
· Torture videos
· Human organs
These are the common things that you can find in this God forsaken place.
Now for the uncommon things that I found on the Deep Web:
1. The most disturbing site we found was a comprehensive guide for cooking women. I am not talking about a short joke here. This page had information on what body types to use for specific cuts, how to prepare these cuts, and how to cook the girl so she lives as long as possible (I shit you not).
2. Comic book, still in the plastic sealing, perfectly legit except the entire back page directly inside the cover was a sheet of LSD.
3. There was a German man selling pretzels, just pretzels. (filled with human semen)
4. Yeah, the “hitmen” are comically overpriced. You can get a sicario in Mexico for around $400 USD. (plus free tacos since he is part-time chef, cool)
5. Found a guy selling carrots. Like, it wasn’t code for anything, he was literally just selling carrots for bitcoin. 10/10 would order again.
I downloaded TOR and within 20 minutes of downloading it and browsing random shit I got a phone call but there was no one there and they just hung up after 10 seconds. I didn’t even know if it was legal at the time so that was enough to freak me out and I stopped right there. (I will be making another article on how TOR is useless for privacy)
I am not encouraging you to surf the deep web, word of advice don’t, please don’t since clicking on a wrong link (with JavaScript enabled on your browser) can mean the end of your life (not really). A JavaScript exploit can be used to upload malware into the user’s computer — meaning a keylogger can be installed without your knowledge and your passwords will be compromised.
And remember there is NO LOVE ON THE DEEP WEB, everyone is a target.
Stay tuned for more
